The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
