A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
