A throng of the ancients 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 "We are ruined, 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
