The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
