The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
