In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
