The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
