The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
