The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
