The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
