The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
