The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
