The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
