The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
