I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those of the right hand 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Nay, everyone of them desires that he should be given pages spread out (coming from Allah with a writing that Islam is the right religion, and Muhammad SAW has come with the truth from Allah the Lord of the heavens and earth, etc.). 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
