The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 It will be a place of return 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
