The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they differ? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
