The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
