He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
