He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
