He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
