He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
