He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
