He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
