He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
