The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Woe to those that deal in fraud,- 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 It is a written book. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 and when they saw them said: 'These are they who are astray' 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
