The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 on a fateful Day. 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
