The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
