The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the piercing star. 3 [for] no human being has been left unguarded. 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 He is created from a drop emitted- 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 Verily they are plotting a plot. 15 And I am plotting a plot. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
