Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
