Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
