Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
