Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
