Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
