The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
