The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
