The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day resplendent 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
