The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
