The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And accepts the best, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
