The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And accepts the best, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
