The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
