In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
