The dwellers of Al-Aiyka [near Madyan (Midian)] belied the Messengers. 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 I am for you an honest Messenger. 178 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 179 I do not ask any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure and do not diminish the goods of people, 181 and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance, 182 And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption. 183 Fear Him who created you, and the generations of the ancients.' 184 They said, "You are no more than a bewitched and insane man 185 And you are naught but a mortal like ourselves, and we know you to be certainly of the liars. 186 Therefore cause a portion of the heaven to come down upon us, if you are one of the truthful. 187 He said, "My Lord has full knowledge of all your actions." 188 But they denied him, so there came on them the retribution of the day of gloom. Lo! it was the retribution of an awful day. 189 Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers. 190 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
