A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 He said, “My Lord! Help me as they deny me.” 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs. 50
