A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
