He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
