They will ask you about ThulKarnain (the pious and chosen). Say: 'I will recite to you something of his story. 83 We established him in the land and gave him means to all things. 84 He journeyed on a way 85 To the extent that when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a nation there; We said, “O Zul-Qarnain – either punish them or choose kindness for them.” 86 He answered: "As for him who does wrong [unto others] - him shall we, in time, cause to suffer; and thereupon he shall be referred to his Sustainer, and He will cause him to suffer with unnameable suffering. 87 “And regarding one who believed and did good deeds – so his reward is goodness; and we shall soon give him an easy command.” 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 until, when he reached between the two barriers, he found this side of them a people scarcely able to understand speech. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said: "That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord had established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. 95 Bring me lumps of iron. Then when he had evened up between the two mountain-sides, he said: blow! Then when he had made it fire, he said: bring me and I shall pour thereon molten copper. 96 So they [Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog)] were made powerless to scale it or dig through it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 and upon that day We shall present Gehenna to the unbelievers 100 who have turned a blind eye to My reminder and a deaf ear to My warning. 101
