۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
