Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
