Alshu'araa' 7 of 11
(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 gardens, and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
