The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
